Catalog description

This course is designed for prospective elementary school teachers and explores the mathematics content found in the K-8 curriculum. Topics include properties of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes, transformational and coordinate geometry, and measurement concepts. Emphasis is placed on mathematics as reasoning, representation, problem solving, and making connections across ideas. Rather than presenting isolated facts and procedures, the course highlights mathematics as a coherent and interconnected discipline. Technology is integrated throughout as a tool for exploration, discovery, problem solving, reinforcement, and communication.
