LAW ENFORCEMENT AND POLICING

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution.This course will provide a description and analysis of contemporary issues confronting all law enforcement personnel. Additionally, with the increased awareness that policing requires the need for greater understanding across cultures and communication skills, the critical and emerging issue of community policing and multicultural enforcement will be examined. Topics addressed in the course include: the politics of law enforcement, police brutality, the impact of administrative interventions on police discretion, and police strategies such as problem-oriented policing, "hot spot" patrols, paramilitary units, the criminal investigative process, and working with state and federal agencies.
