INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELING IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution.FPSY, JUST elective.This course introduces the basic elements of counseling and specific techniques applicable to the criminal justice setting. Students will explore its history, theories, procedures, professional issues, ethical standards, accreditation, licensure and major specialties. Topics include observation, listening, recording, interviewing, common measurement devices, and problem exploration necessary to form effective helping relationships. Upon completion, students should be able to discus and demonstrate the basic techniques of counseling.Faculty: S. MARTINO
