Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution.This course allows students to examine the multiple facets of juvenile delinquency from criminological and sociological perspectives. In this course, students explore the nature and extent of juvenile delinquency, the role of criminological theory in understanding delinquents and the causes of their offenses, the social influences on the construction and occurrence of juvenile offending, and the societal response and management of delinquency by the juvenile justice system. Emphasis is placed on the use of empirical research, guided by criminological theory, to shape understandings of juvenile delinquency and the juvenile justice system. This course incorporates the use of lectures and class discussions, in conjunction with student reading and writing assignments.Faculty: D. BUTTON
