Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution.This is an in-depth look at the operations of contemporary correctional agencies and the challenges that they face. The class will provide an overview of jails, prisons, halfway houses, probation, parole, intermediate sanctions, and diversion programs. Students will learn about the security and treatment challenges generated by the presence of special populations such as the mentally ill, drug dependent offenders, gang members, and the elderly in the corrections system.
