INCARCERATION

Catalog description

The class will include an overview of theories and history of the use of incarceration, types of facilities, inmate society, women, minorities and the elderly, working in prison, and inmates' rights. Students will learn the challenges of incarcerating special needs inmates, such as those who are physically and/or mentally ill, and explore the effectiveness of different treatment approaches. Whenever possible, the class will include a tour of at least one correctional facility. Faculty: C. Tartaro
