GENDER, SEXUALITY AND MENTAL HEALTH

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution. This course explores the human experience regarding gender and sexuality, and the relationship they have to mental health in order to hone the values, attitudes, and beliefs of the therapist. Topics such as the gender spectrum, transgender dynamics, gender roles, attraction and love, biological considerations, sex work, sexually transmitted infections, and sexual disorders will be addressed. These topics were chosen to ensure continuous opportunities for self-reflection and applicable knowledge based around an everchanging landscape of client-related concerns. With sex being the root of all life, understanding the physical, biological, and social dynamics that come with it are both practical and necessary for mental health practitioners.
