Catalog description

Designed to expose students to a range of approaches to media criticism, and foster their ability to critically analyze and evaluate media texts, this course explores different theoretical perspectives on the role of media in influencing social, cultural, and political values, beliefs, identities and behaviors. Students will read, watch, discuss and write about a variety of media texts, and will learn to critically interrogate the ways in which interconnected dynamics such as class, culture, gender, generation, and race influence both the production and reception of media messages.
