This course focuses on the structure and reactivity of the elements and their compounds. Topics covered include atomic structure, theories of chemical bonding, molecular symmetry and group theory, molecular orbital theory, acid-base chemistry, coordination chemistry, reactivity of transition metal complexes, and the chemistry of solids. Includes laboratory work: synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds using various experimental techniques.
