ESTUARINE ECOLOGY AND RESEARCH

Catalog description

This course will examine the unique habitats and organisms (both plant and animal) that live in tidal coastal ecosystems where salt water mixes with freshwater. The class will be a mix of lecture and laboratory/field work. Lectures within the classroom will introduce students to the physical, chemical, and biological components of these complex systems. Extensive fieldwork on the Mullica River-Great Bay estuary and tidal tributaries will allow students to experience how these overarching components interact within the range of estuarine habitats including tidal freshwater marshes, salt marshes, submerged aquatic vegetation beds, mudflats, and barrier islands.Faculty: STAFF
