Catalog description
This course will explore the molecular biology of prokaryotic organisms and the use of molecule techniques to understand the ecology of microorganisms. The course will be taught via discussion using primary literature. Topics will include DNA replication and mutagenesis, gene regulation, ribosome assembly and translation, evolution of bacteria and biogeography of microbes. The laboratory will include PCR and cloning, enzyme assays and molecular identification of bacteria.
