How do backboned animals walk, run, swim, or fly? This course introduces students to the biomechanics of backboned animal locomotion and posture. After establishing a foundation in scaling, elasticity, strength, and bone properties, students learn about animal movement through hands-on experiments and analysis of real animal locomotion data. This course is intended for a wide range of majors including biology, anthropology, geology, physics, and anyone with an interest in learning how to measure and understand animal movement.
