Formerly titled PAINTING FROM IDEA: WORD INTO IMAGE and formerly titled PAINTING II. Not open to students with credit for ARTV 3163. Introduction to painting from concept, as opposed to observation. Color-mixing, and the process of generating and realizing personal imagery, are stressed. “Word into Image” is a multi-stage project involving poetry, collage and a large abstract painting. Slide lectures on the genesis of abstract painting in the 20th Century, and on compositional metaphor. Offered every Fall semester.
