Catalog description

Prerequisite: Not open to freshmen. Not open to students with credit for GAH 2265.This course provides students with an overview of copyright law and examines how copyright protects creative endeavors. Although copyright laws apply to a broad range of intellectual property, the focus of this course will be on musical works. The course also examines the property rights of performers over their performances, broadcasts, and sound recordings such as digitally stored media and CDs. The course also explains how the administration of copyrights can be entrusted to a performance rights organization, such as ASCAP, BMI, or SEASAC. These organizations administer the rights to musical performances and recordings.
