Catalog description

Films as texts offer insights into pressing social and cultural issues. This course will focus on several film themes that illustrate how artists tackle contemporary concerns. More specifically, we will look at, among other categories, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class as they are represented in classic and modern films. Students will discuss and write immediate responses on the night of the film, and more reflective/critical essays due one week later.
