While we encounter discussions about globalizations daily, the concept itself remains unclear. In this course we will explore contemporary debates over the diverse dimensions of globalization. Topics may include modern economic transformations, the role of new technologies, international organizations, local identities, the global financial crisis, conflicts between cultures and civilizations, migration and immigration, and critiques of globalization. We will draw from academic studies as well as popular media and texts. Students will learn how to develop and carefully defend their positions on modern global issues. Core methods and a diverse range of examples from around the world will be examined.
