ARCTIC ARCHAEOLOGY

This course introduces the circumpolar cultural landscape through archaeological perspective and reviews the traditional arctic and subarctic cultures of North America from the Pleistocene up to the 20th century. Modern themes in arctic archaeological research that promote environmental and cultural awareness are explored. These themes include variable human adaption to extreme environments; human impacts on the landscape; the effects of climate change on culture and cultural heritage; and issues of cultural interaction.
