ARCHIVAL STUDIES

Catalog description

Open to graduate students and qualified undergraduates (those who have completed a minimum of 96 undergraduate credits with an overall GPA of at least 3.5). Qualified undergraduates must contact the Office of Graduate Studies for the required permission form. This course will introduce students to the theory and practice of archival science and records management. Students will explore the basic principles of appraisal, arrangement, and description of archives, preservation, and access. We will examine archival systems and records management in the United States. To apply the theoretical knowledge, students will work with the collections in the Richard E. Bjork Library Special Collections to complete a processing project. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have an understanding of basic archival concepts and records management practices.
