Catalog description

African American culture and style has influenced American popular culture since Africans were first brought to the new world. From the "soul food" of the deep south, to the Blues music that ultimately gave way to Jazz and Rock-n-roll, African Americans have impacted nearly every musical genre, fashion and pop cultural expression. This course will explore these any many others from a historical and cultural perspective.
