Discussion (1L): Introduction to Election Law

Catalog description
This discussion seminar is intended to give students a basic understanding of the themes in the legal regulation of elections and politics. We will cover several Supreme Court cases on topics of voting rights, reapportionment/ redistricting, ballot access, regulation of political parties, and campaign finance. We will begin each session with an update on litigation related to the 2026 election and attempt to tie the themes of the class to ongoing controversies in the law of contemporary American democracy. Elements used in grading: Full attendance, reading of assigned materials, and active prticipation. Class meets: 6:30 PM-8:30 PM on Sept. 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 13, Oct. 20.
