From Bedside to Boardroom: Operationalizing Health Equity

This 1-unit synchronous course equips students with the tools to design and lead organizations that meaningfully advance health equity. Grounded in clinical experience and managerial decision making, it examines how organizational structures and incentives shape disparities in access, quality, and outcomes, and how they can be deliberately redesigned to better serve patients. Students approach health equity through an organizational lens, learning how values translate into real operational choices and measurable impact across healthcare and related sectors. Through cases, simulations, and practitioner perspectives, the course emphasizes practical judgment, helping students weigh efficiency against equity, recognize unintended consequences, and develop strategies that embed equity into core organizational strategy rather than treating it as an add on. The course is required for MD MBA students in the Health Equity MD/MA scholars program.
