Standing at the height of the Barroco de las Indias, Sor Juana represents the culmination of early modern discourse on natural philosophy, theology, and gender. In this course we will read some of Sor Juana's major texts and situate her writing within its historical and cultural landscape in the seventeenth-century. We will examine Sor Juana's writing across genres - including her poetry, autobiographical letters, and religious works - alongside authors who shaped her thinking. This class seeks to engage with Sor Juana's contribution to wider early modern debates on epistemology and women's authority within the intellectual sphere. Taught in Spanish
