Exploration of the relationship between Spanish- and Russian-speaking worlds at various points in time and space and through the words and works of Spanish and Russian writers and artists. The class surveys the figure of iconic revolutionary Dolores Ibarruri (Pasionaria); the Moscow experience of poet Rafael Alberti; the fate of the "ninos de la Guerra" (children of Republican parents who were exiled to the USSR during the Spanish Civil war); the masterworks of Soviet cinema set in Mexico (Eisenstein's "Viva Mexico") and Cuba (Kalatozov's "Yo soy Cuba"), among others. Taught in Spanish.
