Catalog description

Where does law end and literature begin? What role does fiction have vis-a-vis the legitimation of social orders? How to formulate a jurisliterary interpretation? This masterworks-style course will include exempla from the medieval law treatise Las siete partidas to the contemporary novelist Brenda Navarro. Theoretical framework: Peter Brooks, Gonzalez Echevarria, Rodriguez Velasco, JS Peters. Fascinating, highly readable and equally complex primary works by Garcia Marquez, Echeverria, Sarmiento, Las Yeguas del Apocalipsis, others. Topics include: honor, narrativity, performativity, constituent power, juridical personhood of nature, disappearance.
