Multiple Brazils

Catalog description

Since its origins as a colony, national identity has been disputed in Brazil, a country with an immense cultural multiplicity, crossed by ethnic-racial relations, and in which modernity and tradition coexist simultaneously. The course will explore its history from a contemporary point of view, through literature, music, films, and visual arts. Connecting past and present, the focus will be on how contemporary artists and writers dialogue with the past, re-reading it, and re-signifying it. Taught in English
