Arabic calligraphy is the supreme art of the Islamic world. Other Islamic arts, such as architecture, metal work, ceramics, glass, and textiles, draw on calligraphy as their principal source of embellishment. This interactive lecture-workshop traces Arabic calligraphy's development and illustrates the various types of calligraphic styles in use today. Prerequisite: Knowledge of Arabic writing and reading required. May be repeated 3 times for credit.
