For centuries, the Islamic world was a central hub of scientific knowledge and intellectual production. In this course, we will explore how the concept of 'ilm (knowledge or science) functioned as a fundamental component of this intellectual culture. In particular we will focus on the production of astronomical and medical knowledge in the premodern Islamic world. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between science, philosophy, and theology.
