GEN 7835
Taxes and Business Strategy
Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Taxes affect a wide variety of business decisions, including the efficient formation of businesses, the creation of cash and equity compensation plans, operational planning across jurisdictions with competing tax regimes, M&A tax structure, and retirement planning (to name a few). This course first provides a conceptual framework for incorporating taxation into business decisions, linking concepts from accounting, corporate finance, business law, and economics. The course then provides real-world examples to illustrate both the business impact and the societal impact of specific tax policies, including the effects on business investment, job creation, and cross-border tax competition. The course provides a holistic view of how the business of taxes impacts companies, citizens, and the government.
