Advanced Analysis of Global Environmental Policy

Catalog description

This is a graduate workshop focused on quantitative interdisciplinary research analyzing global environmental policy. This class covers advanced material in environmental economics/policy and explores the frontier of research. This course is a seminar format, where we read recent research papers and discuss them. The course surveys large-scale global environmental challenges and the exact topics change year-to-year based on advances in the field and emerging questions. Topics in prior years included: environmental migrants, biodiversity, waste management, climate change damages, air pollution, forests, AI, outer space, noise pollution, infrastructure networks, regulation, fisheries, freshwater resources, methane, natural disasters, politics, Chinese environmental policy, poaching, deep sea mining, food production and trade, plastics, lead, pesticides, adaptation, geoengineering. This course is for graduate students who are doing or planning research and who want to explore and understand the frontier of research in this space. Students will get the most from the class if they have some graduate training in economics/statistics. This class can be repeated for credit.
