Introduction to Genomic Medicine offers students a foundational survey of how genetics and genomics inform modern healthcare. Over ten weeks, we'll explore DNA structure and variation, gene regulation, disease mechanisms, genomic technologies, career paths, genetic counseling, and ethical considerations. Through hands-on activities, students will apply these concepts to topics including genetic testing, personalized therapies, and the promise and challenges of integrating genomics into specialties such as oncology, neurology, reproductive medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, and primary care. The course blends scientific rigor with clinical relevance, fostering a mindset that bridges molecular understanding with patient-centered genomic applications. This is a 3-unit course open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
