Catalog description

Before Shakespeare sat at the center of the literary canon, his reputation was rivaled by the likes of Christopher Marlowe, Ben Jonson, Thomas Kyd, and others. This seminar pairs Shakespeare's works with his competitors to investigate the literary scene that produced the most famous writer in English. Topics include the aesthetics of revenge, the performance of racial difference, and the drama of the soul.
