This course is an introduction into anthropology's central concepts, theories, and debates and how anthropologists explore and analyze contemporary human experiences an histories across the world. Lectures cover contemporary social and political issues in a range of different global cultural sites, covering topics such as the sacred, colonialism, race, the economy, gender and sexuality, the body, migration, violence among many other topics. The class introduces students to anthropology's central methodology of long-term ethnographic fieldwork. It will also ask students to imagine their own everyday lives through anthropological concepts.
