Catalog description

This course seeks to explore the genre of literary noir beyond European extensionalist aesthetics and American mid-twentieth century hardboiled fiction to reflect a transnational narrative mode reflecting distinct and diverse cultural crises of urbanization, colonialism, crime, corruption, alienation and power. Emphasis will be placed on historiography, critical theory, comparative analysis, and close study of narrative conventions and style, affect, and form.
