Academic Achievement of Language Minority Students

Catalog description

This course explores ways in which information technology can be used to support language minority students (LMS)-students whose first language is not the language of instruction-in succeeding academically. Participants design devices or artifacts (e.g., apps, visualizations, algorithms) intended to support learning or to increase opportunities to learn for LMS. Also, they evaluate the effectiveness of such devices and artifacts according to their sensitivity to socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic factors that shape academic achievement.
