GEN 5306
Nature and Nurture in Early Cognitive Development
Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
In the first few years of life, children display a rich set of skills and behaviors, with some well-defined milestones. Some patterns of development appear fixed; others seem malleable based on experience. However, even seemingly straightforward findings are rife with complexity. Geared toward graduate students, this course will provide an overview of young children's cognitive development. We will delve into issues of nature and nurture, and think critically about what it means to show "typical" development.
