To Live for the People: Black Public History in the Bay Area

This upper-division course explores the African American history of the Bay Area through the lens of Public History. This course will explore how the general public engages with history in real world settings by examining museums, murals, community archives, and the influence of cultural celebrations and monument commemorations in creating historical memory. Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to enroll in this course. This course is part of the Community Engaged Learning Course curriculum in the Department of African & African American Studies and also designated as a Cardinal Course by the Haas Center for Public Service.
