Introduction to Research in Design

This seminar introduces students to academic research in Design. Specifically we will look at research relating to Design in roughly three areas: Research into Design (the study of how designers, engineers, and teams design), Research for Design (tools and methods to support designers and engineers), and Research through Design (applying the design process to understand different phenomena, solutions, and interventions). Additionally, we will explore methods of conducting research in design. Students will work towards a creating a research proposal and plan. This course is required for students participating in the Undergraduate Research Internship in Design, but is open to application by other students.
