Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Business Design: Building for Impact introduces business, growth, and product concepts as tools for design, developing student capabilities critical to the development, launch, and success of new products in for-profit and impact enterprises. Functionally, students will learn to build the business model for new products, including skills such as market sizing, cost estimation, P&L modeling, and raising capital. In addition, product-market fit, growth, and product management will be explored through class visitors, case studies, and exercises. Class projects, culminating in a final Demo Day of student projects to active angel investors and entrepreneurs, will develop teamwork and effectiveness in prototyping, live presentation, written communication, and video storytelling. This course is directed towards Design majors but appropriate for all undergraduate and graduate students interested in these topics. If you are not in the Design program, instructor permission is needed for enrollment. Strongly recommended: DESIGN 121 and DESIGN 141.
