Interdisciplinary Dreaming in Performance (IDiP)

Catalog description

Interdisciplinary Dreaming in Performance (IDiP) is inspired by this Ocean Vuong quote; "Rules are merely tendencies, not truths, and genre boundaries only as real as our imaginations are small." Taught by Stanford advanced lecturer, celebrated mixed-media choreographer, and Guggenheim Fellow Alex Ketley, the class is a laboratory for students who want to design their own unique performance projects from any entry point they choose. As seemingly disparate creative inputs collide each student will explore this rich, fertile, interstitial space to see what divergent ideas emerge. Students will be strongly encouraged to cultivate complications into their artistic process to challenge their personal assumptions around what is possible. The studio will be a space celebrating experimentation, risk taking, and the idea that expression can truly be limitless if we trust and challenge our intuition. This class is open to any student interested in expressiveness with no experience in performance necessary. The instructor will work closely with each student to help them fully realize their project and an informal performance will happen at the end of the quarter.
