GEN 4037
Power Dynamics in Teaching and Learning
Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Who holds power in a classroom - and how does that power shape what and how we learn? This course examines power dynamics in teaching and learning, from everyday classroom interactions to broader school and social systems. Together, we will examine how aspects of identity (e.g., race, ethnicity, class, religion, gender, sexuality, and ability) shape educational experiences and create both opportunities and barriers to learning. Students will also consider how these dynamics have evolved over time and imagine new possibilities for teaching and learning that are more inclusive and just.
