Thinking with Africana Literature and Philosophy

Catalog description

This course explores Africana literature and philosophy through the manifold ways they conceptualize and engage with the human experience. It focuses on the intellectual and ethical connections across the diverse intellectual traditions encompassed by the term Africana, using it as a framework to understand how African and Afro-diasporic thinkers and creators interrogate life, society, ethics, among other issues. The course engages not only philosophy but also critical thinking, storytelling, artistic expression, and cultural reflection. Students will develop skills in comparative reasoning, literary and philosophical analysis, and interdisciplinary interpretation, while situating Africana thought within broader conversations about issues such as humanity, ethics, the environment, religion, and social justice.
