This course explores the mutual definition of human bodies and technical systems in the historical development and use of media technologies across scientific and cultural domains. Drawing on scholarship in media studies, history of science/technology, and STS, we will examine how bodies and machines were imagined and configured relative to one another and how these complex entanglements both shaped and were shaped by new media technologies and practices.
