Catalog description

Euripides' Iphigenia at Aulis presents the events leading up to the Achaean sacrifice of Iphigenia prior to the start of the Trojan War. This tragedy investigates ancient perspectives surrounding death, duty, and devotion, and students will find themselves confronted with ethical ambiguities and moral dilemmas at every turn of the page. This course will provide students with the skills and confidence to read ancient Greek tragedy. Performance context, theatrical technology, and historical framework will also be provided via discussion, lecture, and additional resources. Classics majors and minors must take the course for a letter grade. It may be repeated for credit with advance approval from the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
