Catalog description

An introduction to reading Classical Chinese poetry, concentrating on well-known poems from the Tang dynasty. Students will learn the major themes and interpretative issues of the major forms of gushi and lushi by such well-known poets as Li Bai, Du Fu, Wang Wei, Li Shangyin and others. No previous study of Chinese poetry is required, but students should have a high school equivalent command of written Modern Chinese (1 to 2 years of college level Chinese language).
