Innovations in Human-Building Interaction

Catalog description

This course explores the human-building interaction (HBI) field, intersecting architecture, technology, and user experience. During the summer, students will be immersed in a series of engaging presentations that trace the evolution of HBI, from its early concepts to the cutting-edge advancements of today. Students will engage in a hands-on design project, challenging them to either create a prototype for a novel HBI product or reimagine an existing product through the lens of HBI principles. This practical experience will allow students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, foster creativity and problem-solving skills, engage with emerging technologies, adopt a user-centered approach, and collaborate across disciplines. Students will gain a preliminary view of how to design and implement smart building solutions that prioritize human comfort, efficiency, and well-being.
