Catalog description
This course focuses on applying computational design methods in architecture through CAD and scripting frameworks. Students will expand their digital representation skills by integrating computational geometry and structured data manipulation to facilitate generative design. Emphasis is placed on creating robust digital models with clean and structured geometry, ensuring seamless interoperability and data exchange with engineering, environmental analysis, and rendering software. Through the study of geometry taxonomy (including Point, Edge, Surface, and Solid) and the translation between Mesh and NURBS, students will develop proficiency in matrices, constraint systems, and advanced parametric techniques. Designed for Sustainable Architecture + Engineering majors (with CAD proficiency, e.g. Rhino and CEE31B recommended), the curriculum demonstrates the evolution of architectural tools from descriptive to computational geometry, enabling the comprehensive modeling and documentation of complex projects.
