Hospitals and healthcare provider organizations rely on a complex ecosystem of administrative technologies to manage insurance risk, schedule patients, obtain prior authorization, bill payers, and collect payments. These healthcare administration activities related to insurance and revenue cycle are often categorized as an expense burden, and the related technology greatly impacts how care is delivered, paid for, and ultimately sustained. This course examines healthcare administration and revenue cycle technology including the implementation, maintenance, and support across ten domains. Students will gain exposure to healthcare administrative systems, data structures, and analysis of how new entrants may disrupt the future. The course is designed for future healthcare providers, operators, and entrepreneurs who may build, buy, or use healthcare operations technology. Course content is grounded in real-world technology management at Stanford Health Care and brought to life through discussion guided by the instructors who have designed, implemented, and operated revenue cycle technologies.
