Reimagining Scientific Visualization with Augmented Reality

Catalog description

In this mini-course, students will reimagine how scientific results can be communicated through augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). Using an open-source, smartphone-based AR platform, students will learn to transform their research data into interactive 3D experiences. Topics include: (i) fundamentals of computer graphics and 3D modeling, (ii) open-source workflows for creating, hosting, and sharing AR models, and (iii) strategies for integrating AR/VR into scientific communication. By the end of the course, students will produce and share an AR model of their own scientific results.
