Science of Sensing: Exploring Biosensors and Devices

This course introduces the principles and applications of biosensing across chemical, optical, and physical modalities. Students will gain hands-on experience with technologies such as continuous glucose monitors, construction of Langmuir binding curves, and introductory exploration of photoplethysmography (PPG) and inertial measurement units (IMUs). The course culminates in a project where students design a biosensing platform for a target application, including selection of biomarker panels and consideration of device form factor, highlighting the integration of sensing principles with real-world design criteria.
