Catalog description

This course is for biosciences graduate students (years 2+) interested in boosting their research productivity by incorporating Design Thinking tools and mindsets into their academic life. Foundational skills that enrich a scientist's research journey with more 'creative confidence' will be taught and practiced, such as how to (1) be a mindful observer, (2) consider emotions as valuable sources of information, (3) become more comfortable with ambiguity, and (4) refine via cycles of prototyping and reflecting. The course uses a variety of strategies to engage students including lectures, readings, generative discussions, and guest speakers. Students will also read and discuss Creativity in Research: Cultivate Clarity, Be Innovative, and Make Progress in Your Research Journey.
